As Zebulon rapidly expands, the Zebulon Downtown Arts Council (ZDAC) is spearheading a transformative vision: a premier Visual and Performing Arts space that will serve as a cultural anchor for the entire East Wake area. Envisioned as a dynamic split facility, one half will feature a stunning visual arts gallery, while the other houses a flexible auditorium. This adaptable venue fills a critical infrastructure gap; Zebulon currently lacks public auditoriums outside the school system, and will seamlessly host mainstage performances, community programming, and act as a satellite location for regional colleges to expand their educational initiatives. Because neighboring communities like Wendell and Knightdale operate without dedicated arts councils, ZDAC is uniquely positioned to capture a regional audience. As the initiative grows, future phases will further expand to offer dedicated studio spaces for local artists and craftspeople.
Investing in this space is a proven catalyst for robust economic development and community enrichment. According to the Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6) study by Americans for the Arts, nonprofit arts and culture attendees spend an average of $38.46 per event beyond the cost of admission, injecting vital foot traffic and revenue directly into local restaurants, retail shops, and services. In Wake County alone, arts audiences generate over $351 million in event-related spending annually. By bringing larger audiences and premiere entertainment to Zebulon, this facility will generate local tourism and create lucrative business opportunities for neighboring enterprises, proving that a vibrant arts scene is synonymous with a thriving local economy. Beyond its economic impact, the space will provide a much-needed home for youth, student, and artist development, offering young people a stage to explore their talents while giving local creatives a professional platform to thrive.

OUR HISTORY
The Zebulon Downtown Arts Council (ZDAC) is a community-focused non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the arts in the heart of Zebulon. We strive to create an inclusive environment where creativity thrives, and art is accessible to everyone. The project concept for a "Zebulon Arts Center" began in 2011 when the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County presented a draft proposal to the town of Zebulon outlining a plan for arts and cultural development of towns in eastern Wake County. In response, a ZDAC Steering Committee of private citizens was formed to pursue the establishment of a non-profit organization to raise funds to create and sustain a downtown arts center. The Zebulon Downtown Arts Council (ZDAC) was officially formed as a 501(c)(3) organization and has been pivotal in developing and executing public arts projects, local events, and quarterly exhibitions in partnership with the Town of Zebulon and other local organizations.
OUR IMPACT
More than 2,000+ residents from the Five-County region, including children, families, seniors, and veterans, have enjoyed ZDAC exhibitions, workshops, and community activities. ZDAC aims to provide accessible programming, has supported about 120 artists, and has provided arts access to more than 850 school-aged children in the Five-County area.
OUR GOALS
Since 2020, Zebulon’s population has grown by over 45%. ZDAC is uniquely positioned to help grow both Zebulon’s creative economy and the broader region of the five counties it sits in the middle of. ZDAC is just at the beginning of our possible impact; over the next five years, we’re aiming to triple our impact and serve residents through established annual programs, events, classes, and public initiatives that will drive foot traffic, inspire tourism, and help Zebulon’s economic development.
YOUR SUPPORT
Based on these growth goals, we estimate that it will cost ZDAC approximately $600,000 to hire part-time and full-time staff, offer continuous programming, events, and classes, and ultimately, establish a Visual and Performing Arts Center that can be utilized as an innovative and incubative space for artists across Zebulon. This will be vital to our community. In our most recent research, we found that 76% of community members surveyed feel that Zebulon is home to talented artisans, but only 32% feel they have access to the arts. Your support will go towards establishing ZDAC as a force of creative good within Zebulon, and helping us grow into this ultimate goal of establishing a community space for the arts.
