ZDAC Presents Featured Artist Exhibition

Photographer Chuck Robertson

The Zebulon Downtown Arts Council is proud to present an exhibition by photographer Chuck Robertson, now on display in the lobby of the Zebulon Town Hall Municipal building. The exhibition will be on display through the end of September. A reception is planned as a chance to meet the artist and purchase his work - details to  be announced soon. Stay tuned!

Chuck has honed his craft over decades. He attended Campbell University and Randolph Tech majoring in Commercial Photography. His first job at Waller Studio in Raleigh landed him among the last wave of the 1970’s photographers which offered incomparable experiences such as photographing Susie Marshall Sharp, the first female member of the NC Supreme Court.

Chuck’s career took a turn and he moved into creative photography which included a variety of landscapes and buildings. He captured the changing seasons and life of a pond over a period of twenty years. That pond, sadly, has now been lost to us due to development. Another solitary pleasure for this artist was rising early and recording images of Sunday mornings coming to various shops and buildings bereft of their usual visitors.

Perhaps most influential in Chuck’s evolution as an artist was his introduction to Ikebana which is the Japanese art of flower arrangement.Key aspects of this art form are minimalism, harmony, asymmetry, and symbolism. These truths resonated strongly with Chuck and he has humbly, yet powerfully, embraced them in his still life work.

Chuck Robertson’s favorite question is “Why not?” This simple inquiry encourages the freedom to

see nature as well as objects in unique ways. His confident eye captures and translates subjects for the viewer with profound clarity.
