Josh Williford currently resides in Creedmoor, North Carolina but hails from the town of Zebulon. He is a mixed media painter who focuses on ways to explore imagery and abstraction through pareidolia, and how that concept continues to affect the evolution of archetypes and symbols.

As a child, a teacher nudged him to the path of art. Having no formal training, he pursued drawing in different mediums and styles. In the early two thousands, he began exploring abstraction with mixed media on canvas. In the mid two thousands, he had success in juried and non-juried art shows across North Carolina including museums and won various awards from galleries. Through these endeavors, he noticed that everyone saw something different in a brush stroke; pareidolia. He seeks to explore that concept by using large scale canvases bringing together seemingly random colors and movements, later to be outlined after identifying imagery in the patterns.

Having always been interested in the art of ancient culture, he also strives to blend the archetypal symbols and wisdom of the ancients through use of mixed media on canvas to challenge what we see every day. You may see a dolphin in the cloud, while the other person sees a lion, but we all see the cloud.

Shape Shifting

The Zebulon Downtown Arts Council (ZDAC) is proud to present Shape Shifting, a new exhibition of mixed media paintings by
Josh Williford. Created specifically for this show, Josh’s bold, imaginative works invite viewers to explore abstraction, symbolism, and the shifting ways we perceive imagery. The exhibition is on display in the Zebulon Town Hall lobby from October 1 through the end of December. Join us for a special reception on Thursday, November 6th, from 5:30–7:00 pm, where you can meet the artist, experience his work in person, and have the opportunity to purchase original pieces.
